When it comes to vintage Rolex, reference 1016 holds a near and dear place in collector’s hearts. The 1016 was far and away saw the longest production run spanning from 1960 until 1989. This particular 1016 dates to 1966 (Serial 127xxxx) and comes with Rolex service papers from 1977 which correspond to the markings on the inside of the caseback. This example sports a gorgeous brown tropical dial that really makes it stand out. It is likely that the luminous material on the dial was redone by Rolex at service in 1977. The hands are also Rolex service replacements but match the dial perfectly. I had a new old stock vintage Rolex T22 Tropic crystal installed but will include the original crazed crystal as well. This example represents a rare opportunity to score a brown tropical dial gilt 1016; a true collector’s dream.
