When you think of 1970s Patek Philippe one watch most readily comes to mind; the Nautilus. The titan of sports watch collecting undoubtedly deserves its glory. But, lest we forget, Patek produced other watches in the 70s. It can be argued that no model embodies true 70s design better than the 3733. This reference is special. Featuring a solid 18k construction of ribbed gold bars, Patek produced this model in both yellow and white gold; this example being the latter of course. There’s something magical about this in the flesh, a rectangular design that is essentially the anti-tank. A true modernist masterpiece.
This example sports a gorgeous, and very rare, Lapis Lazuli dial. It’s a particularly attractive slab of stone that has a unique fade to it. It’s reminiscent of a swimming pool. The deep end being by 12 o’clock, gradually getting shallower as you move towards 6. The dial is in overall very good condition, there is a small mark on the capital P of Philippe in the signature. The crystal also has a few small nicks which we opted to leave be. The metal of the watch is in similarly great shape seeing normal wear for its age. The watch measured 34mm x 29mm and will fit up to about a 7 1/3 inch wrist. It’s powered by the manual wind Patek cal. 215 movement. The watch is accompanied by it’s original inner and outer box as well as Extract from the Archives dating sale to Feb 26 1977. This exact watch was previously sold by esteemed Tokyo based dealer John Nagayama.
